Professor’s ‘In Slavery’s Wake’ exhibit provides immersion into trans-Atlantic slave trade

In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a traveling multimedia exhibit, co-conceived and curated by a Pitt faculty member, on the history of the global slave trade is taking on a life of its own.

In addition to educating and informing, “In Slavery’s Wake: Making Black Freedom in the World” has sparked a growing dialogue about the larger questions of slavery.

8 Pitt undergraduates earned Gilman Scholarships

Eight University of Pittsburgh undergraduates have been awarded Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships for the October 2025 application cycle. The Global Experiences Office will facilitate the recipients' educational experiences abroad.

Alumna Jasmine Al Rasheed won a German Academic Exchange Service graduate fellowship

Jasmine Al Rasheed, who received a Bachelor of Philosophy in International and Area Studies from the Global Studies Center in 2023, will use the award to fund her master’s degree in global health from a joint program between two German schools: Humboldt University of Berlin and Charité, the Berlin University of Medicine.
