Vivian Hui

Professor Vivian Hui, RN, BSN, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh and received her PhD from Pitt’s School of Nursing in 2022. A pioneer in the application of artificial intelligence in nursing, her work sits at the intersection of health technology innovation and nursing informatics.

Professor Hui’s research focuses on trauma and domestic violence survivorship, using computational approaches to analyze digital text-based data from online health communities. She leverages natural language processing and large language models to better understand individuals’ informational and emotional needs, as well as help-seeking behaviors in virtual spaces. In collaboration with clinical and technical experts, she develops and evaluates AI-driven healthcare interventions, including domain-specific chatbots, recommender systems, and model evaluation frameworks designed to support diverse patient populations.

Her contributions to health technology have earned broad international recognition, including honors from leading professional associations in medical informatics and violence prevention. She serves in advisory and editorial roles in the global health informatics community and contributes her expertise to policy initiatives in Hong Kong focused on non-communicable disease prevention and technology applications in health and environmental sectors. Through research, innovation, and public service, Professor Hui advances the responsible integration of AI into nursing practice and global health systems.
