The Carl Paul Malmberg Fellowship

Purpose

This Fellowship supports early-career Lesotho nationals studying a master's degree at the University of Pittsburgh in any areas of their academic interests. Strong candidates will demonstrate their skills to the country's development. 

Eligibility

  1. The competition for a Malmberg Fellowship is open to Lesotho nationals whose record of accomplishment early in their career indicates strong potential for leadership and achievement in business, government, public services, or other relevant professions.
  2. Applicants must have completed an undergraduate university degree.
  3. Applicants must be proficient in speaking, reading and writing English.
  4. Applicants must complete an application with the Center for African Studies for screening and recommendation for admission.
  5. Applicants must be accepted to a Master's program at the University of Pittsburgh beginning the academic year for which they seek the Malmberg Fellowship. 

Funding

Fellows will receive two years of support in the form of tuition, living stipend and a $1,000 program and professional activities fund.

Lesotho nationals interested in submitting an application to be considered for the fellowship should:

  • E-mail Dr. Anna-Maria Karnes at awk19@pitt.edu of your interest.
  • Submit an application to the Center for African Studies
  • If you are selected for the fellowship, you then must be granted admission from one of the graduate schools at Pitt.

If selected, we will work with you to apply to any professional school of your choice for admission into the Master's degree program.
