Purpose

This grant funds research travel to/in Asia or for other travel related to research on Asia. It can also be used to bring visiting faculty/scholars to Pitt. 

Eligibility

Full-time and part-time tenure-stream, tenured and non tenure-stream faculty (including lecturers, adjunct faculty, and contract faculty) at all Schools, Departments, Centers, Institutes and Campuses of the University of Pittsburgh.

Funding

Up to $1,000. Typical grant amounts are between $200 and $500.

Purpose

This grant is a meant to support Japan Studies faculty in bringing speakers, conferences, and other academic events on to the Pittsburgh campus. Faculty wishing to apply for event funding will need to complete the Asian Studies Event Form.

Purpose

This grant is funded through a generous donation in the name of Dr. Mohinder Bahl and Mrs. Saroj Bahl. Students, faculty, and affiliated researchers may apply for up to $500 to help fund research, travel, or other educational expenses for projects and education that support India, Indian Studies, or people of Indian origin. Strong preference will be given to students, faculty, or researchers with demonstrated financial need.

Purpose

For working on a manuscript publication related to Japan. Preference will be given to 1) single-authored books, 2) followed by co-authored books, and 3) then edited books of essays and translations. In the case of 2) and 3), at least one of the authors, translators or editors must be an eligible member of the University of Pittsburgh faculty. It cannot be used by the author to pay for indexing or any other costs of preparing a manuscript for publication.

Purpose

This grant funds faculty research in Japanese Studies, not for events and conference travel. The grant amounts may be up to $7,000 for one year or up to $14,000 for two years. Eligible costs include air and ground transportation, meals, and lodging expenses for research projects based on a concrete and clearly defined agenda in Japanese studies, OR exploratory Japan Studies Research based on well-defined research proposals. For funding to support events on campus, please apply for the Japanese Studies Event Support Grant. For conference support, faculty should consider applying for the Japanese Studies Small Grants or the restricted Japan Studies funds for conferences, if eligible.

Purpose

The CLAS Travel to Professional Meetings Small Grants were established to support faculty in advancing their professional development and sharing their work in Latin American, Caribbean, and Diasporic Studies (such as Latinx studies) with the broader academic community. These grants provide travel funds for faculty to attend conferences and professional meetings.

Eligibility

To be eligible, the faculty member must be presenting a paper or participating as an organizer, discussant, or moderator in a session focused on the Latin American or Caribbean region.

Funding

The CLAS Travel to Professional Meetings provides up to $800 per academic year to support faculty affiliated with the Center for Latin American Studies. Faculty members are eligible to receive a maximum of $800 annually. Funds are limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until funds run out.
