Graduate Certificates and Credentials

African Studies

The Center for African Studies offers two credentials for graduate students to study African history and politics.

The African Studies Certificate (including the Advanced Certificate in African Studies) is designed for students who wish to intensify their study of African generally and any specific African countries of their interest. 

The Certificate in Mediterranean Studies (including the Certificate in Advanced Mediterranean Studies) offers students the opportunity to study the region defined by its connection to the Mediterranean Sea. 

Asian Studies

The Asian Studies Center offers certificates to encourage increasing expertise in Asian Studies and to help contextualize your primary academic program.

Graduate students wishing to intensify their study of a country or region in Asia will gain a deeper and broader perspective by enrolling in the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Asian Studies.

Graduate students wishing to further enhance their primary academic program with a strong focus on transnational flows of people, ideas, culture, disease, politics, or capital will benefit from a Certificate in Advanced Transnational Asia.

European Studies

The European Studies Center provides an array of valuable opportunities for graduate students to deepen their understanding and knowledge of Europe and the European Union.

The European Union Studies Certificate offers students with academic and professional interests in the European Union an opportunity to study the institution, its history and development, its political and economic policies, and its influence on Europe and the world in depth.

The Certificate in Mediterranean Studies provides students with the institutional support and organizational structure to examine issues and themes across the Mediterranean world over a broad chronological span – from Antiquity to the present. 

The Certificate in Transatlantic Studies offers students the opportunity to study the historic and contemporary relationship between the United States and Europe and receive a credential.

The Certificate in West European Studies provides students with strong interests in predominantly Western European history, culture, politics, and languages to complement their major with a regional specialization.

Global Studies

The Global Studies Center offers certificates designed for graduate students who desire a deeper understanding of social and economic inequality in transnational context and facilitates the contextualization of the student’s major within the dominant political and economic trends.

Latin American Studies

The Center for Latin American Studies offers two graduate certificates in Latin American Studies: the Graduate Certificate in Latin American Studies and the Latin American Social and Public Policy Certificate.

The Graduate Certificate in Latin American Studies is a multidisciplinary program of study designed for students who want to graduate with a credential that indicates a specialization on this region of the world in addition to their master's or doctorate. 

The Graduate Certificate in Latin American Social and Public Policy is a multidisciplinary program of study designed to train future leaders, public officials, and analysts capable of designing social and public programs that meet the needs of countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies

The Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies offers undergraduates a variety of stimulating interdisciplinary credentials.

The REEES Certificate is an interdisciplinary credential that combines foreign language training and multidisciplinary area studies courses.
